Heat Watch

Another week where I've been deathly quiet on the blog front - mainly because, yet again, deathly busy at work. What's a girl to do? I'm actually typing this whilst working the weekend: eurgh. Although to be honest, I'm in one of those great moods that even working the weekend can't erase.

It's a beautiful day here in Dubai - like 360 days of the year it's clear blue skies, sunshine, and warming up very nicely. I have mixed feelings about his - on the one hand, I do love the heat, and nothing says the weekend like two days spent on the beach. But very soon it's going to be back to unbearable temperatures...constant clamminess, and our favourite outdoor venues closed for the best part of five months. Boo!

I'm not sure exactly how hot it is but I've developed a pretty good personal thermometer - I reckon it’s 34 plus today. My actual digital thermometer gave up the ghost a few weeks ago so I'll be sorting new batteries for it soon so that I can get back onto Temperature Watch. Yes, I know I'm sad....

A Geek, Me?

Who'd have thought that a digital thermometer could be the source of such fun. Oh yes. My name is Kelly and I have temperature OCD.Since ensconsing said thermometer on balcony (in shade) I have become v interested, nay obsessed in just how hot it is at various points during the day.

If you're interested (and why would you be?!) here are some numbers for you:

830 am - last week - 32
930 am - this week - 37.8
1.45 pm - this week - 44.6

You can see where this pattern is going, non? And lord knows where my sanity is going. I haven't started producing bar charts......yet. Somebody stop me!

The Hairdryer Treatment

There's no more walking to work at the moment - it suddenly became scorchio, what felt like overnight. When I emerge from my apartment each morning it's a definite case of 'clamp sunglasses to head and steel yourself for searing heat in the face.' Thankfully, taxis have cottoned onto the fact that a lot of people in my complex need rides to work in the morning, so each mornign there's a dutiful line of them waiting for people. And the sum it costs me to get to work? 2 quid. Love it.

I'm Back!

Hello dear readers! Did you miss me?! No, I haven't disappeared off the face off the earth entirely. It's been a busy old time what with visitor season and all. I have now firmly packed the parentals and grandma back to Jersey. Bless them. They loved Dubai, and it was great to see it through their eyes.
There was however, no need for the weather during their trip. It was horrendous! Torrential rain for about 5 days out of 7. Horrific. You can imagine the debacle that was the Open Top Bus Tour - hmmm attractive when in pac a mac with thunderstorm whirling around you and rain driving into your face at a 90 degree angle. Still ,as we kept saying, at least it wasn't cold. If we'd been in Manchester it would have been the same only much, much icier.
So, the blow up bed is deflated, bedding put away, ready for the next batch of visitors. You know you are beautiful people!

Weird Weather

We’re in the middle of a huge sandstorm at the moment. It does exactly what it says on the tin: very very high winds, (I had to rescue the washing from the balcony this morning where some of my smalls were threatening to fling themselves off and onto the pool below – imagine the shame!) combined with a lot of sand being flung into the air.

This means that visibility on the roads – or anywhere – is very bad, and on leaving the apartment this morning I had half a ton of sand:

a) in my hair
b) in my eyes
c) in my lipgloss

Not a good look! I abandoned the usual walk to work and hailed a cab. On arrival at the office I looked like a crazed afghan hound that’s had a particularly vigorous walk on the beach. Nice!
