What Can Change in 4 Years..?

Six lanes of traffic. Not moving. Ah, 2008....
One of my favourite Dubai bloggers recently wrote about what life was like in Dubai in 2008. You should read her post here, it's great.

It prompted me to have a quick look through some of my photos from 2008.

When I first arrived I lived in a tower right next to Sheikh Zayed Road.

It was a stone's throw from the Metropolitan Hotel. That's since been knocked down, of course.

They were building the huge pillars which were to hold up the Dubai Metro, right outside the front door. The Dubai Metro is up and running now, of course.

The traffic used to tailback outside the apartment from 5 pm up until 10 pm. I actually blogged about it back then, wondering how anyone ever got home on time!

Whilst traffic is still heavy, it's nothing in comparison to now.

How things change.....

We really should take pix of Dubai as it changes so fast. I can' t believe how empty the side of SZR looks without the Metro. And god, yes, I remember those jams!! (I was prob in that one! )

Delighted to find your blog about life in Dubai as we are moving there shortly. We lived in Abu Dhabi more than 20 years ago and I can't wait to see how the whole country has changed since then. After reading this post, I suspect I won't recognize it!

Yes, so many changes since we got here in 2007. I remember those jams too....they were maddeningly endless.

Oh blimey - I know this entry was written a couple of months back, but I only stumbled onto your blog today and had to read back a bit.
I had to smile when I read this. I lived in Dubai from 2003 to 2005 - a much too short time, but I can only imagine how much it has changed! I mean, when I left, they had JUST started on the Burj Khalifa...
And changes... when I moved there, Dubai Marina didn't exist yet. When I left, a truckload of skyscrapers haunted the backyard of the beach...
I so hope to be back next year, if only visiting. It depends, it depends...
